Why support us?

Whizz-Kidz is a relatively young charity but we have big ambitions – to ensure every child with a mobility impairment in the UK has the chance of reaching their true potential and the chance to live their life to the full.

Beatrix smilingAll children need the right start in life, and disabled children are no different.

Movement is an important stimulus in early life and is central to a child’s development.  From as young as one to two years old, children are already finding their feet, their voice and a mind of their own.

But without the means to move around on their own disabled children may fail to develop the skills and confidence to achieve their potential in life. They can become passive and reliant on others, which not only impacts on their early years, but also means that as adults they are often unable to fully participate and contribute to their community.

Nearly all of the families who come to Whizz-Kidz for mobility equipment are on low income and have been referred to us by their local NHS therapist because their wheelchair service has been unable to meet their individual mobility needs. The wheelchair training, specialist advice and life skills we provide further increases their independence and potential to lead a more active childhood.

Letting children be children

The children and young people we work with face many challenges in their daily lives, but having the right wheelchair at the right time gives them the means to get around independently and the confidence to face these challenges head on.Yasir speeding along

Every child is different and every one of them has individual needs, but they all have one thing in common – they need our support to give them the childhood they deserve.

Being able to do simple everyday tasks, often for the first time, takes disabled children from isolation to inclusion – the kind of things many of us take for granted such as crossing the road, reaching for a light switch, posting a letter, sitting at the kitchen table with their family or simply joining in with friends at school.

With their new-found independence disabled children also develop increased confidence and self esteem, which in turn reduces their reliance on friends and family members – this also takes the pressure off them too.

We need your support today

There are an estimated 70,000 disabled children and young people in the UK who could benefit from our support - and they need it right now. We need your support today to change more young lives.

Every year Whizz-Kidz provides hundreds of children and young people with the wheelchair or other type of mobility equipment they need.  We help thousands more through wheelchair training, specialist advice and information.

Holly at school in the playgroundWhizz-Kidz receives less than 1% of statutory funding and relies entirely on voluntary funds raised through the generous support of people like you who either make a donation or undertake a sponsored event. We also raise money through companies, charitable trusts and local groups and associations.

By supporting Whizz-Kidz you will make a real, visible and immediate difference to the lives of disabled children like Aroosa who are still waiting to join in.
